The Tunisian national team suffered its first shock in the World Cup, losing 1-0 to Australia in the opening of the second round of Group D.
Tunisia received the first loss after snatching a point in the opening match of the group from Denmark with a goalless draw, so that the “Carthage Eagles” settled in the back of the group with one point, with a goal difference from the third Denmark team, which will face France, the world champion and leader on goal difference from Australia, at the end of the second round.
The reasons for the fall
- Jalal Al-Qadri, coach of the Tunisian national team, gave the match great importance in his speech before the match, describing it as the key to the World Cup, and the confrontation that the team was waiting for before the start of the World Cup, to issue more pressure on his team, as some thought that it was the easiest match in the group.
- The Tunisian national team made a great physical effort in the first match against Denmark in the group, only to fall back a lot against the representative of Asia in the second match, especially in physical struggles and speeds.
- Al-Qadri faced great criticism for leaving distinguished players in the homeland, and not including them in the list of Eagles destined for the World Cup in Qatar, and criticism increased before the match because of the starting line-up, as the fans demanded the participation of some distinguished players such as Ali Maaloul, Saif Al-Din Al-Jaziri, Wajdi Kushraida, Wahbi Al-Khazri and Hannibal Al-Maghbari, and all of them were on Bench.
at the exit door
- The position of the Tunisian national team has become very complicated in the group. The Carthage Eagles need to win the last match against France, the world champions, while looking at the results of others, to pass through to the second round for the first time in its history.
- The fourth point is the maximum that can be reached now for the Tunisian team, but the teams of France and Australia can reach 6 points if France beat Denmark, and Australia beat France in the final match.
- Denmark still retains hope even if it falls against France, because it has a point that could reach 4 points if it beat Australia in the final match, with Tunisia losing or drawing it against France to ensure passage to the final price.
