Former Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitic, aged 35, has bid farewell to Sevilla as he embarks on a new chapter with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Shabab Club. The LaLiga side confirmed the departure of Rakitic, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Sevilla’s Statement

Sevilla released an official statement, stating, “We have agreed a deal with Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab Club for the transfer of Ivan Rakitic, who will bring his second spell with us to a close.”

A Storied Career with Sevilla

Rakitic initially played for Sevilla from 2011 to 2014 after moving from Bundesliga side Schalke 04. He returned to the Spanish club in September 2020 following six successful years at Barcelona. In the past year, Rakitic played a key role in helping Sevilla secure their record-extending seventh Europa League title.

During his time at Sevilla, Rakitic became the foreigner with the most official matches in the club’s history, surpassing 300 games (323). He was also the vice-captain for the team.

Achievements Beyond Sevilla

Rakitic’s illustrious career extends beyond his contributions to Sevilla. At Barcelona, he won the Champions League in 2014-15, along with the Super Cup and a Club World Cup. Additionally, he achieved four LaLiga championships, four Spanish Cup victories, and two Spanish Super Cups.

International Success

Having earned over 100 caps for Croatia between 2007 and 2019, Rakitic played a pivotal role in his country’s runners-up finish at the 2018 World Cup.
