Aston Villa should take pride in their remarkable 17-match unbeaten run at home in the Premier League, despite the recent end to the streak by Newcastle United, according to manager Unai Emery (52). Newcastle secured a 3-1 victory at Villa Park, making them the first team to beat Villa at home in the league since Arsenal’s 4-2 victory in February of the previous year.
Emery’s Perspective on the Defeat
“The loss has to come one day, and Newcastle deserved it overall,” said Emery, who took charge in October 2022, turning the club’s fortunes around after succeeding Steven Gerrard. Despite the defeat, Emery’s side is positioned in fourth place in the league, just five points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played one game fewer.
“I’m very proud for our supporters and very proud of the players of the way we did (the unbeaten run). It’s finished because we lost after a very long time being successful here,” Emery added. “Always when you are losing, it’s a little bit frustrating for the players and supporters, but we have to try to get the perspective we have now with everything we were doing.”
Looking Ahead to Sheffield United
Villa’s next challenge is an away match against bottom-side Sheffield United in the league on Saturday. Emery emphasizes the need to regroup and maintain a positive perspective as the team continues its campaign.
