The European Champions League enters its final round of the group stage, on Tuesday evening, and while the strangest groups have been decided in terms of those who qualify for the next round, there is only one group, with possibilities open to all its teams.
What is the strangest group?
This group is the fourth group, which includes Tottenham of England, Sporting of Portugal, Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany and Marseille of France.
Why is it the strangest?
Any team from this group can qualify, if the “required result” is achieved, so the fate of the 4 clubs is completely unknown, until the final whistle on Tuesday evening.
What is the current arrangement?
Before the final round kicks off, this is the standings of the teams:
- Tottenham 8 points
- Sporting 7 points
- Frankfurt 7 points
- Marseille 6 points
What are the opportunities?
All clubs have a chance to reach the round of 16 of the tournament, and these are the chances:
- Tottenham needs a draw or victory away from home against Marseille.
- Sporting needs a draw or a victory at home against Frankfurt.
- Frankfurt need to win away from home against Sporting.
- Marseille needs to win at home against Tottenham.
The most complex group
This group is the only one among the eight, in which no team has decided to qualify. All the other seven groups have at least two qualified teams or one qualified team.
The first and second place winners qualify for the round of 16 of the tournament, while the third place goes to the Europa League, and the fourth place goes out empty-handed.
