Instagram is looking into an issue that prevented thousands of its users from accessing the photo-sharing platform, with many complaining that their accounts had been suspended.
Instagram, owned by Meta Platforms, said on its Twitter account on Monday: “We understand that some of you are having problems accessing your Instagram account. We are looking into this and apologize for the inconvenience.”
An Insta spokesperson did not comment on the issue of the accounts being suspended. A number of the platform’s users wrote on Twitter that Insta asked them for the email and phone number to access the suspended accounts.
Earlier today, nearly 3,000 users were affected, according to the Downdetector website, which tracks outages, but this outage may have affected a much larger number of users.
Meta shares fell about five percent amid widespread selling in the stock markets.
