Iraq... Revealing the tragic causes of the "tank explosion"
The tank explosion killed 8 people

On Monday, the Security Media Cell revealed the reasons for the tank explosion in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, which killed 8 people.

The head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Saad Maan, said that “the tank explosion in the Banks area, east of the capital, Baghdad, is due to technical reasons.”

He added that “the explosion was caused by the expansion of the gas capsule inside the tank,” noting that “the accident was accidental due to negligence and the loss of safety procedures.”

He stressed, “There are no criminal or terrorist indications in the accident,” noting that “measures will be taken regarding the entry of wheels loaded with derivatives into the capital, Baghdad.”

On Monday, the Baghdad Operations Command announced that vehicles loaded with oil derivatives would not be parked inside residential areas.

Baghdad Operations Commander Lieutenant-General Ahmed Salim said, “It was instructed to search and close unofficial yards and (garages) and prevent vehicles loaded with explosive oil derivatives from being parked inside residential areas.”

He explained that “the decision came in the interest of citizens’ lives and the preservation of public and private properties.”

He concluded by saying that “the Operations Command assured all owners of unauthorized yards to review the Municipality of Baghdad (Security Permits Department) to complete their transactions to obtain official approvals to conduct work in accordance with the controls prepared by them to avoid being subjected to legal accountability.”
