In the event of their occurrence.. How can nuclear leaks be dealt with?

Fears of a global nuclear catastrophe are increasing, especially with the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian war and concern about the use of nuclear weapons, or the fire reaching nuclear reactors, especially since the war has approached the Zaporizhia plant many times, and Moscow and Kiev have exchanged accusations of responsibility for the bombing of the station from time to time. .

Other accusations related to nuclear weapons occurred between China and the United States, as the Pentagon issued an annual report on the dangers of the Chinese nuclear military force, and China responded to it by describing the United States and its allies as the largest source of nuclear conflict.

This international concern raises questions about the Arab region and its vulnerability to any conflict or nuclear leakage.

Professor of Nuclear and Radiation Physics at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, Hoda Abu Shadi, explained to TnT Universal Tv the dangers of a global nuclear catastrophe and the extent to which the Arab world could be affected by it:

• I do not think that a nuclear catastrophe may occur soon, especially since Russia has never used nuclear weapons in wars, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has the wisdom to prevent him from this matter and bear its repercussions.
• Concern about nuclear leaks for our Arab region is linked to securing nearby reactors.
• When a radioactive leak occurs, it is difficult to avoid these radiations, but their side effects can be prevented by giving doses of iodine to humans.
• Many countries in the world conduct exercises to deal with nuclear dangers and their preventive measures, where they hold exercises to know the initial instructions and procedures in the event of an earthquake affecting nuclear plants, or a radioactive leak or something else, and NATO has conducted similar training, and in Japan it is being trained School students on these positions.
• It is important in our region to learn these things and preventive measures related to training, especially since Egypt has begun to enter the age of nuclear reactors, and training on dealing with nuclear dangers will make us master how to deal with them in the future.
• There is no concern about Egypt building a nuclear reactor, because Egypt has owned research reactors for years, and the Atomic Energy Authority has two reactors, one closed and the other operational, and the Nuclear Power Plants Authority trains its children, and it has a young leadership working to prepare strong human resources, and it possesses capable scientists and engineers efficient management of these systems.
